Many of us shave every day and it can be an uncomfortable or painful activity. However, after being shown how to have a proper shave, and making just a little more effort, I found it can actually help put you in a great mood for the day. I am also pretty sure your partner will agree that a good shave is much better than sandpaper like stubble!

What you will need.

For a good wet shave, you will need the following:

A Face Flannel

Shaving Soap

Razor (buy a good one – it is worth it and it will last longer)

Shaving brush (a badger brush – ideally best badger or super badger)

Mirror

You must prepare your skin before you start to shave. This makes sure that that both the skin and the stubble is soft and ready to be shaved. It also gives you have a far more comfortable shave, with less chance of shaving cuts.

Lathering

Either have a shave after you have had a shower, or wash your face thoroughly with warm water before applying shaving soap – and leave wet.

Gently run the hot water through the shaving brush until it is wet and begin to build up a lather with the soap by moving the brush against the soap in a circular motion. Once the brush has been loaded with soap, build the lather up on your face, again with small circular movements.

If the lather is not as creamy as you want, add a little more water to the brush and repeat the above process until you have a good thick covering all over your beard. Do not skimp on building up a good lather, as it really does help you have a good shave.

Shaving

Now, taking your razor, begin to shave down one side of your face always remembering 2 things -

1. ALWAYS shave with the direction of the hair growth

2. Rinse your razor thoroughly after each stroke. This will ensure a clean blade and therefore a closer shave.

3. With your free hand, try to hold the skin as tight as possible that you are about to shave.

The above points are the most important things to remember to ensure you don’t get shaving rash/shaving burn.

Rinsing

Once you have finished shaving, use cold water to wash off any remaining shaving cream, and dab dry with your flannel or towel. This serves to both wash the face, but more importantly, to close the pores.

Verdict

Kiss your partner for a final verdict!

You will be surprised at the difference that a good wet shave makes. It only takes an extra few minutes but it’s well worth it. Go on, give it a try and see what your partner says.
